CONCORDIA FJORD (1955 - 1980)
Owner: Hvalfangst-A/S Suder°y (Knut Knutsen O.A.S.), Haugesund, Norway (1955 - 1976)
Owner: Colossus Maritime S.A. (An. G. Politis), Piraeus, Greece (1976 - 1980)
1979 Came on fire 02/07 in Beirut, Lebanon whilst trying to leave the harbor because of the civil war. Was hit midship by an napalm rocket. The crew tried to extinguish the fire but had to abandon ship. The vessel drifted into some other ships in the harbor before she she came to rest and partly blocking the harbor entrance.
The vessel was towed to a berth but continual sniping made her impossible to board. The moorings broke 29/11 in an gale and she damaged some other ships. Towed in December to Piraeus, Greece. Condemned under a war policy.
1980 Sailed 10/01 in tow for Santander, Spain. Demolition began 02/02 by Recuperaciones Submarinas S.A.

From the collection of my grandfather.

History is a bit wrong; she was not owned by Suder°y (Knut Knutsen OAS). She was owned by A/S Atlas (Christian Haaland) of Haugesund. Haaland had his own line, the Concordia Line, with sailings from US East Coast to Mediterranean/Persian Gulf. There were although family relations, as Chr.Haaland was married to one of Knutsen's daughters.
