Laid down 21st December 1942 at Lake Washington Shipyard, Houghton, & completed at the Puget Sound Navy Yard, Bremerton (both in Washington State). Commissioned as a Barnegat-class seaplane tender (AVP-55) on 5th July 1946.
Reclassified as a "miscellaneous command flagship" (AGF-1) on 15th December 1965.
Decommissioned 15th January 1973.
Later used as a test ship for the Electromagnetic Pulse Radiation Environment Simulation for Ships system & sold for scrapping on 1st May 1977.
