many thanks yours. The design is actually closer to the older Japanese coal carriers which were used mainly with the Japanese power utility trades who preferred minimal shifting of the cranes for unloading. our new post panamax 87,000 dwt (Alam Padu, Pesona, Permai etc which you have seen up in Port Alfred already) were designed to have greater flexibility trading in the spot market including grains since their 7 hold / 7 hatch design is a more practical design for the grain trade. So there are +/-'s for both but both are double hull designs. We now have 4 x 88,000 dwt from Imabari shipyard and they have just introduced a new 95,000 dwt post panamax which is 7 hold / hatches!
all the best
Keith
