Description:

Excursion vessel “Kanrin Maru” (咸臨丸) in the Naruto Strait, Japan, on 1st October 2017
Owner: Joyport Minami Awaji
Builder: Naikai Zosen, Setoda (Hull-531)
Gross tons: 384
Overall length: 49.40 m
Engine: diesel, 1,100 b.h.p.
Cruising speed: 12.1 knots
Passengers: 500
Area of operation: Naruto Strait (between Shikoku & Awaji Islands), famous for its whirlpools
Design based on the “Kanrin Maru” built by F. Smit, Kinderdijk, Netherlands, & delivered to the Nagasaki Naval School in 1857
Completed April 1988; originally operated under same name in the Inland Sea around the Seto Ohashi Bridge, out of Fisherman's Wharf on Yoshima island, under ownership of Keihan Fisherman 's Wharf Co. (a subsidiary of Keihan Electric Railway Co.)
Note: a Wikipedia article states that “the ship was visible in the theme park of Huis Ten Bosch in ... southern Japan” but this is incorrect; that was the larger “Kanko Maru” (観光丸), a replica of a ship of that name built built in the Netherlands in 1855
