Museum submarine “Vesikko” undergoing restoration on Suomenlinna island, Helsinki, Finland, in May 1969
Builder: Crichton-Vulcan OY, Turku, Finland
Displacements: 254 surfaced, 303 submerged
Length: 40.9 m
Engines: 2 x MWM diesels, total 700 b.h.p.
Wikipedia states that she was ordered (in 1931) by the “Dutch engineering company Ingenieurskantoor voor Scheepsbouw” but the official Suomenlinna website states it was the German Navy. Both agree that it was some kind of prototype used for tests.
Delivered April 1934 as “CV 707”
Taken over by the Finnish Government in August 1934 (Wikipedia) or 1936 (Suomenlinna website)
Commissioned into the Finnish Navy under the name of “Vesikko” in 1936
Served in the Winter War (1939-40) & Continuation War (1941-44) against the USSR; laid up on cecession of hostilities
Transferred to Finnish Military Museum in 1959 & moved to Suomenlinna.
Opened to the public following completion of restoration in July 1973.

German engineers did work in other countries and for other navies to keep developing U-Boats between the World Wars as for a time Germany was forbidden to develop and own U-Boats.
