The retired USCGC Bramble (WLB 392). She was a Balsam/180' Foot Class seagoing buoy tender. Commissioned in 1944, she served until 2003. Highlights of her career include operating out of San Pedro in the closing months of World War II, serving in the Aleutian Islands, Participation in the 1949 Atomic Tests "Operation Crossroads" in the Bikini Islands, being part of the Northwest Passage experiment in 1957 in the Artic Ocean, Numerous ATON (Aids to Navigation) operations, law enforcement, and SAR missions in both the Great Lakes and the Caribbean. She was also overhauled in Toledo Ohio at least once and performed light icebreaking duties on the Great Lakes.
Retired in 2003, she served as a Museum ship in Port Huron, Michigan. Bought in 2018 by Tom Clarke or Roanoke VA, he announced plans to take her to a shipyard in Mobile AL (probably this trip) to refit her and then repeat her historic Northwest Passage trip.
She appears to have a buoy on her forward deck and wears the awards she earned during her service with the US Coast Guard.
Taken from the seawall and the new fishing pier at Fort Monroe Hampton VA as goes east leaving the Hampton Roads going towards the Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic Ocean.
