I asked a Japanese about 新井 and they said it's hard to imagine it being anything but "Arai". Lappino is correct to say 新 means "new" and is usually pronounced "shin", but that doesn't apply here. 井 meanwhile means "well" (as for drawing water), and not "world".

The company's name is "New world", Bonnybrook got her name right, it's "Tenyu Maru". I used to spend hours trying to get the names of Japanese ships, using kanji recognition software, or the programs that would try to decipher my own rendition of kanji characters. It all became a lot easier once I got access to the Japanese ships' official numbers database.

Imho, "新井" is pretty forward "Shinsei", the first character "新" is very widely used, "Shin" or "new", and the combination (probably) means "new world".

This is the Daihachi Tenyu Maru ("Dai" = "No.";"hachi" = "8"). Tracking companies probably prefer to call this in English Tenyu Maru No. 8. The ship was built by the Matsuura Shipyard in Hiroshima. Owners are 新井
