The Marland is indelibly etched in my memory.
In December 1973 I was on BP's 'British Argosy' in Cammell, Lairds drydock at Birkenhead. In the adjacent dock was the Marland.
I wrote the following brief account some years ago, and I have copied & pasted it here:-
Further info re: the fire on 05/12/1973 on the 'Marland' at Cammell Lairds: sadly, 4 people perished in the after accommodation.
I recall it was a Saturday night/Sunday morning when the fire took place.
The fire was in the after end of the crew's accommodation and excessive boozing was mentioned (Bear in mind that we were all boozing every night in Birkenhead back then,.....).
I remember walking around the ship's stern, over the dry-dock's dock gate and seeing the fire and smoke damage.
The following day her crew were discharged and sent home, bar Master, C/E and a few other senior chaps. Eventually the tanker was towed dead ship from the drydock into Lay-up at Seaforth Dock while a decision was made on her future.
Later in 1974 she was towed to Scott's Shipbuilding and Repair at Greenock for repairs. (I have a distant memory that it was in order to get her machinery operable again so that she could make her own way to scrap).
In any case she was sold for demolition and arrived at Kaohsiung on 11 March 1975.

OceanCraft is right. She is MARLAND, ex BIDEFORD. On March 11, 1975 arrived Kaohsiung to be broken up by Char Tai Steel & Iron Works.
