Description:

HMAS Koompartoo in Rozelle Bay in 1963. Built 1922 by Walsh island Dockyard & Engineering at Newcastle NSW for Sydney Ferries, Yard No. 53. L 191ft x B 38ft 3in x Draft 10ft 9in. 448 GRT. Purchased 1941 by British Ministry of War Transport for service in the Middle East, but never sent. Taken over by the RAN in Dec 1942 & commissioned as a boom defence vessel. Served at Darwin 1942 -1945. Returned to Sydney 1950 to reserve. Sold June 1962 & stripped at Stride's in Blackwattle Bay. Hull towed to Tasmania as a bauxite barge.
