Wow Brett, my birthday was on the 4th, that is more than 3 weeks ago, it would have been a colossal hangover not to have recovered in this time. And it was nothing special just a small party for 1000 persons.....oops..sorry scratch those last 2 zeroes,
Now let's hope I shall reach 75.
thsnks Brett your concern... hmm.

Thanks David ,at least Administration is to look into it,,sometimes it is an enigma what to confer a classification. Another classification is what a heavy lift vessel is? a vessel transporting seacraft? and when she is just carrying cargo, or containers? still h/lifter or container vessel , cargo ships??

I have moved simonwp's post, which is of much wider relevance that to this photo, to the Forum, where it can have wider discussion.
http://forum.shipspotting.com/index.php/topic,16658.0.html

On YERSIN in particular, there are good arguments either way, so I have asked my Admin colleagues to help bring us to a decision.

During September 2016 subject vessel was in Atlantic Canada roaming the Bay of Fundy (including Minas Basin area). Ended up in Saint John for more than a week preparing for outbound voyage. Reportedly headed for Bermuda before returning overseas.

Hmm...her owner then will be getting his money back building her in no time, so then after this 3 year stint doing research and she returns to the high end of private cruising, will she be then classified as a yacht?, or if her owner decides to do a bit of fishing with a couple of lines over the side, what will be her classification? ....and my trusty Toyota has been used to get my relatives to hospital, to the airport and to supermarkets and still she is a 4 door family car a not an ambulance, taxi or delivery vehicle....sometimes I wonder myself if I am on loan to the whole family and relations.
best regards,.... I think my phone is ringing ,could be another job for me old Toyota.
all the best Phil

The owner doesn't just do 'a bit' of research, Emmanuel. She's currently on a three year scientific mission and is equipped with several laboratories with millions of dollars-worth of scientific kit on board.

If your Toyota has a forklift and electronic tail-lift, you might have an argument :-)

If her owner does a bit of research as, let us say a hobby, the vessel is still a yacht. When my son was changing houses ,I helped by transporting certain items, but that did not make my small Toyota a transport truck.
I still say she is a yacht, so Administration please reclassify.

It's a private research vessel, those are always a bit of a conundrum. Where I work, we consider those ships to be yachts. The upcoming 182-metre "REV" for Mr Rokke (richest man of Norway) will be a similar case.

Bob , Equasis or not , just Google her name and look at her interior, if these are quarters for her officers and crew of a research vessel, then researchers must be queuing to enlist.

Brett, Clive's likes this vessel and this yacht, this vessel catches the eye of ship lovers and photographers as she is not another run of the mill yacht with the same clinical white colour.
The other vessel is atypical traditional Maltese dghajsa, nowadays an outboard motor is affixed to her stern (not shown in the photo) and operated by her owner ,traditionally they were rowed by the oarsman standing position facing forward in the middle of the boat by two oars.

Equasis says Research Vessel. This site does tend to follow Equasis.

The YERSIN photos I originally stated that this vessel is a yacht, but Administration just changed it to research/survey vessel. Some websites classifies her as such ,yet others put her down as a yacht. looking at her interior photos with opulent cabins with twin beds, I think it should be classified as such, Yes Clive I think she is a yacht ,Administration must take another look at her interior photos on Google.
She is still berthed at the Grand Harbour YACHT marina. I think we have the same opinion on this Clive.
