These are all good points, and in reality there is no right answer where there are valid options between accepted location names. Where the camera is, where the ship is moored, where it is passing, where is the nearby port etc etc; we are happy for members to make their own choices according to their preference or geographical knowledge. Only non-valid errors, eg completely wrong port, will be changed by Admin. And of course additional information can always be included in the Photo Info box when uploading.

Well, what is location anyway, the position of the ship or that of the photographer?

Paul, being a citizen of (the former community of) Rozenburg I am proud to say that all shots of ships in the New Waterway taken from the Landtong and the Rozenburg Boulevard have been posted with the location Rozenburg. The shots taken the Landtong of ships in the Caland however, are posted as "Europoort".

As the Landtong is now formally a part of the Municipality of Rotterdam, and under the jurisdiction of the Rotterdam Port Authority, other options are possible here.

Hi Simon, It is not as strict ofcourse. I take photos at Rilland which is not in the location options. I Enter them as Antwerp because that is only 5 minutes sailing after of before I photograph them. But i liked to comments on the location regarding this photo.

I have to say that I've entered all my photographs taken from Landtong towards the Nieuwe Waterweg as Hoek Van Holland, and the one's towards the Caland Canal as Europoort.

True Pieter! Perhaps even on The Nieuwe Prins. Still located on the opposite side of HvH though. :)

Stan, the photographer could have been on board another ship...

Technically, the photographer is located on "landtong Rozenburg" Which is "Europoort". Hoek van Holland is only back-ground.

And inbound, not outbound as stated by the photographer.
