Hi rd77, I am willing to be fooled in thinking she is a cruise liner or an expensive super yacht so if any one is willing to take me (for free) as one of the 200 passengers, I am more than ready, passport ready, can pack in an hour, just drop me a line.......where shall I queue?
thanking beforehand the sponsor.
best regards

Don't get fooled by all the marketing blabla from the cruise line, this is not a yacht, but simply a very expensive cruise ship. You can book individual cabins on her and she will take around 200(?) of your best mates with you. Not a yacht at all.

Yes you are perfectly right Bjorn, I was not that close to her , but my friend who seen her close up at Pinto wharf where she was berthed confirms this. Incidentally he also commented on the shoddy work on her hull, for a new ship ,her hull plates does not becomes her luxurious state. He knows what he is saying having spent his working lifetime in shipbuilding/repair work.

To me, as a mariner, I'm seeing the bridge wing maneuvering pulpit (with the lantern housing in this case) as proof of where the bridge deck is located.

I wouldn't be in Administration shoes these days, mega yachts or cruise liners , cargo ships or heavy lifters, tugs or rescue vessels or fishing related, destroyer or carrier (Japanese)? incidentally when I first posted the photo I only put the name SCENIC ECLIPSE then Administration added the name of the bunkering tanker SALINA BAY and classified the photo as "shipping", rather generic category!

Hi Clive and Brett, you could be both right as yes the windows on the third deck are slanted forward, but still with these modern designs you never know what the designers come up with.

Bob is correct, it is a Passenger (cruise) ship - the fact the owners/operators describe it as a yacht is for marketing purposes. Aslo, the move to luxury niche cruising by Scenic, is following on from Viking who progressed from river to ocean cruising.

@Clive u r correct.

Csaba, I think the bridge is the third deck up from the hull. Note the windows are slanted forward - they look like bridge windows to me.

person
Well csaba,I think that the highest ones are the bridge, better viewing, better to isolate from passengers decks etc...mind you this is my humble opinion and I could be 100% wrong ,you never know with these modern designs.

I don't envy Administration job, trying to draw a line between categories has turned into a hard nut to crack, various websites give different versions, it is like taking a second opinion to a doctor's decision, once you got that different second opinion ,which one will you adhere to?

Of all those forward facing windows, which one is the bridge?

It probably is......the distinctions between large yachts and smaller cruise liners is increasingly becoming blurred. But this discussion does ask the question, how do you classify such vessels, by how they are constructed, how they are operated, or how they are marketed?????? Again, perhaps simplification of the site categories will help.

person
Is this another "can of worms" regarding classifications?.....Administration diplomatically changed my classification from yachts to shipping. I am happy as long as they are happy. But this might resurrect once the vessel is once again photographed on her own.

Equasis classifies it as "Passenger (Cruise) Ship". End of debate, I would have thought, as far as this site's categorisations are concerned.

Googling SCENIC ECLIPSE andrecas directs you to her owners website which classify her as a mega discovery yacht specially designed and built for Arctic cruising ,other sister ships are to be built.

That is what I thought at first Clive ,but according to reports in local papers and TV, her owners classify her as a mega yacht built especially for Arctic built especially for sailing in those waters.

I always associated Scenic with River cruising. With the "Eclipse" they are now into sailing the various oceans as well. Some on-line sources identify her as a "cruise" ship while the Scenic web site classify her as a "yacht"....

Is this not really a very luxurious cruise ship rather than a yacht?
