USNS Antares was originally the Sea-Land Galloway, one of Sea-Land's "SL-7-class container ships. They were the largest container ships in the world when built in the early 1970s. They were also the fastest, being capable of 33 knots. Unfortunately, the Arab Oil Crisis coincided with their completion, and they became very expensive to operate. As a result, Sea-Land flogged all eight of these enormous ships off on the U.S. Navy the first chance that came along. All eight wee converted into very large, high-speed ro-ro cargo ships. Apart from the 1991 Gulf War and 2003 Iraq Invasion, they have spent most of the past 40 years laid up in "Ready-Reserve" status.

Correction - USNS Bob Hope as first reported is actually SS Antares, newly arrived at Philly Shipyard for maintenance. USNS Bob Hope is berthed nearby. Good catch Paul and Paulo.

USNS Bob Hope is at Philly Shipyard but after further review, that photo is not USNS Bob Hope. Will correct soon.
