In 1986 a friend and myself took on a contract aboard the Nordic Chieftain but at the time it was owned by a Turkish company and had been renamed Inci-S (I was told that Inci was the name of the owners wife.
The main motor control panel had blown up and burnt out and their electricians couldn't repair it because they'd lost most of the wiring diagrams.
The ship was anchored 5 miles off Greenpoint (Cape Town, South Africa)because they were running on the back up panel, and a tug took us out to it one Saturday morning and we had to work en-route from Cape Town to Vitoria in Brazil where they were going to take on iron ore destined for Japan.
We completely stripped everything out, we redesigned the panel, then rebuilt it and rewired it and commissioned it.

I sailed on her maiden voyage. We had a No8 Big End bearing failure on the way to Tuberao for her first cargo. Bob
