Thanks very much Jackosan for your reply,so interesting.Found your 2 photos of the wharves,will look at your other posted photos.
I remember when anchored in the Shatt Al Arab,every tide, had to use engines when swinging to stop any contact with the river banks.
Will try to find the palace on maps and charts,thanks for the history.

If I remember correctly, the large ruined palace was just that: on the chart it was labelled "ruins of Sheikh of Mohammerah's Palace" or something like that. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sheikh_Khazal_rebellion

My first voyage,and first port of call.
Anchored in the river,opposite on shore was what looked like a large ruined palace. All so exotic !
