"Invicta" is Latin for "Unconquered". There are two versions of the story of why the word became Kent's motto. Both are related to the Norman invasion and the Battle of Hastings in 1066.
The first is that, after the battle, the Normans set off to conquer London but, along the way, the Men of Kent and the Kentish Men confronted them and forced William the Conqueror's army to take a different route to the capital.
The second (more-believable) version is that the Kent lot invited the Normans to pass through unhindered if they didn't do any conquering until they reached London. The rampant bit relates to the horse standing on its hind regs

Invicta, meaning unconquerable in Latin, is the motto of Kent county, and is often found written below the image of the White Horse of Kent (or The White Horse Rampant, no mention of it's sex but being rampant I would go for male)

Looking closely at the crest, does it depicts a male or a female horse? just looking at the face only makes me think more of a female gender! Has anyone got more horse sense (no pun intended) to answer this question.
