Description:
One of the ships at anchor off Apapa/Lagos, Nigeria, on 4th January 1976 was KAISING, operated from Hong Kong by Ocean Tramping but beneficially owned by the People's Republic of China. KAISING was the former DIOMED of Blue Funnel Line, built at Dundee in 1956, which operated as GLENBEG between 1970 and 1972 and was purchased by China in 1973. She was sold to Taiwan for breaking early in 1983.
KAISING had arrived in Apapa/Lagos Roads from China on 13th December 1975, joining the queue of some 300 ships at anchor, mainly loaded with bagged cement. She eventually berthed in September 1976 and sailed in November 1976 for Genoa to load back for China.
