The first three characters of the name are almost certainly "ALM" so "ALMERIAN" I think it is.

Perhaps this shot should be moved to Mystery Ships minus the IMO.

There are seven shots of the Almerian under various names on the site. Only on one, when sailing as ASYRIA she show the rear mast flag arrangement as described by SteKrueBe. I am not saying that he culprit can not be thee Almerian but the proof does not seem to lie in the flag arrangement.

My pic of Flaminian, taken 1961, shows only one lifeboat, assuming the sisters are the same, this is not of the same group as Flaminian [5116062]. But it certainly is not IMO as shown 6611409

Hi there!
The vessel on this picture has a flag staff at the crosstree of her aft mast. I could find the same flag staff at the pictures of the Lancastrian and Almerian but not at the Castilian and Flaminian. Due to the number of eight or nine characters of her name i would put my bet on the Almerian.
Have a nice advent together,
Stefan

This is not Athenian 6611409 of Ellerman Lines ..Built 1966 Athenian length 308 ft beam 46 feet; the only one in the Ellerman fleet this size. Rear engined as per picturehttp://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/photo.php?lid=2946296

The photo is one of four sisters built 1955/56 Almerian became Asia ,Anatolian,Castilian, or Lancastrian. Nearest fit re portholes is Castilian.

Hi there!
It's an Ellerman Liner built in the mid 1950ies, that's fore sure. The Castilian could fit but Ellermans had a whole bunch vessels of a basically similar layout built by different yards. So maybe a second look for: Almerian, Anatolian, Flaminian and Lancastrian.

Stefan

Bjorn, I think you are correct. I have tried to count the number of characters in the name on the bow, and it is 8 or 9, and two "i"s take not much space.

Castilian was built by Alex Stephen and in the yardlist there is no indication of any sistership, that could be the ship above. Unless Ellerman had more sisters built at other yards, I think we cah safely say that we are looking at Castilian.
