It's an lengthy process. During building the ship the owner has a supervision team on the job side. When the vessel comes closer to completion usually the senior officers join the supervision team. Master / Ch.Eng and gradually a few more. Eng's / Electrician etc. A few days before final completion the deck & Eng crew joins. And once everything has been loaded ( stores / provions ) and hopefully every thing is working they sail away.

I always wondered how these new builds were delivered. Is there a delivery crew assigned to the vessel or does it sail from the yard straight to its first job?
