Description:

Launched 25 April 1957 at Hamburg by H. C. Stulcken Sohn as hull no. 868 for Partenreederei "Virgilia" (A. Kirsten). 348'6" x 49'6" x 20'10;" 2374 gt, 1227 nt; twin 8-cylinder SEMT-Pielstick Diesels, 400mm x 460mm, geared to one shaft.

Later *Maria* (1974).

Caught fire at 24.05N-36.42E on 20 May 1982 and beached south of Suez, a total loss.

A. Kirsten, Sartori & Berger, and by 1960 Leo Adams Reederei jointly operated the pioneering and succesful Hamburg-Chicago Linie. *Virgilia* is shown about to load grain at Lake Calumet, Chicago, Illinois, USA, in June 1962.
