Description:

Launched as Titurel in April 1974 for the account of the German Cosima Reederei, she started operating on a long term charter to VEBA under the name Friesland during October 1974
She was a product from the Rheinstahl Werft in Emden, #433, and a bit of an intermediate size, clearly meant for Veba's African trades.

In 1985 she became FLORIDA and in 1998 she was taken over by Anders Jahre, trading for two years as JAHRE SPEED.
In 1990 she became AMBRA HARRIER just for a year after which she went to Belgian Transpetrol who named her UNITY and just kept her for another year.
In 1992 she adopted her last name PRINCESS ARIADNE and two years later she arrived at breakers beach at Chittagong during October 1994 after exactly 20 years of life.

She was powered by a Sulzer 9RND90 two stroke diesel engine, which produced a whopping 26100 BHP. Compared to modern designs of the same carrying capacity, she is much narrower, with 39 meters, and at the same time, with 272 meters, has the length of a current Suezmaz. Installed horsepower on modern tankers of this size hovers around 18000 BHP.

She is shown here in the early eighties discharging in the 5th Petroleum dock, at the (then) Esso-Chevron terminal. The position of the bunker barge is remarkable, as she is not located alongside the tanker.
