A general cargo ship built in the Adolf Warski Shipyard in Szczecin for PLO, as the eighth in the series (B55/V/8). Launching took place on December 10, 1959, and commissioning and flag raising ceremony on June 30, 1960. The ship was designed to service lines from Polish ports to ports on the eastern coast of the United States. In December 1960, Legnica collided off the coast of the USA with the ship CIUDAD DE POPAYAN - the Colombian flag. Both ships were severely damaged. After repairs, m/s Legnica returned to service on the North American line. In 1963, the ship was transferred to serve the West and South Africa line, and a year later (1964) to South and East Africa. Finally, the service in PLO m/s LEGNICA, serving the line to East Africa. In October 1980, the ship was sold to the Greek shipowner GRECOMAR Shipping and renamed GIORGIOS. Just over three years later ( DECEMBER 1983 ) the ship was sold for scrap . Scrapping commenced the same month at Jammagar Beach, India.

That would be way too early for me, but my dad was working on "Legnica" in 1980.
I just associate that very day with launching of my favourite ship:
