Description:

At Kwangyang port, the pier usually reserved for large container ships getting their scrubbers. I hope this arrangement is not final, as it looks... weird.

You're amazing, Vlad. Not only do you have access to amazing opportunities (and take advantage of them) but you also capture striking composition. I just had to look at this one because of the unusual imagery, before the other commenters drew me into the engineering aspects of it. Great Work. Please continue!

Yes maintenance wise it is disastrous, but that is something else.

OK, Mats' mentioning the GT made me think twice; it is final, then. I hope they've find a way to properly protect the equipment from the elements...

My thoughts are the same @Mats.

They have stairs on the outside and the HMM logo attached at top, so I suspect this is the final structure.

The grid structure saves weight and probably does not count in the GT, saving port and canal fees.

I like it!

It looks much better than the blocks that MSC is putting there. Of course you see it now much better because the ship is empty, but it may take some before we will be seeing fully laden ships again (with not only empty containers)

Hi Vlad,
Thanks for this picture. If this is final then it's at least something different for a change.
Reminds me somehow of the latticed funnels of the old CGM ships.
Cheers,
Roy

I've seen some photos of Howaldtswerke's funnels, but this one looks somehow unfinished, imho.

The casing around the scrubber's exhausts reminds me about the funnel of the Howaldtswerke built VLCC's from the mid seventies. It looked different but not unattractive.
