During 1966 and 1967 Rederiet Odfjell took delivery of 2 14000 DWT chemical tankers from the Oslo Aker yard. The first one was the BIRK (#596) and the second was named LONN (#610). Both ships were sold in 1980 to the Canadian Hall Corp, and were renamed COASTAL TRANSPORT and CANSO TRANSPORT.
The COASTAL TRANSPORT is shown here,being cleaned at the infamous Tank Cleaning facility at Schiedam around 1981. In 1982 both ships were renamed again, Chemical Mar and Chemical Sol.
The MAR's end came very soon when during cargo handling at Willemstad in 1982 acid was spilled and caused great damage, resulting in the ship being broken up in Brownsville the next year.
