built 1935 by Oderwerke Stetttin for German Reichsverkehrsministerium for Baltic services (Seedienst Ostpreussen);
On the right: ferry SCHWERIN: 3,133 grt; length over all 107.2 m; beam 18.5 m; max. 800 passengers, 164.4 m tracks for railcars;
built 1926 by Schichau in Elbing for Deutsche Reichsbahn, sailing between Warnemünde and Gedser;
Photo taken after 11th September 1940 in Cherbourg, showing the ships probably waiting for the invasion to England which never happened; scanned from color slide

I also think that it was a crane, destroyed during an air raid or before German occupation to make it useless. The ocean terminal in the background seems to be in good state (still existing today).

I wonder what the wreckage in the foreground is? Looks like a dockside crane.Maybe destroyed in an air raid on Cherbourg.
Keep them coming ,these photographic treasures from World War II.
