Description:
MED RIVA is seen approaching Port de Bouc, to berth at the Caronte Mineral Quay, early on 7th June 2001. This was the only day while working in Marseille for CMA CGM that the journey to Port de Bouc was made before starting work.
Built in 1978 for Deutsche Seereederei by VEB Mathias-Thesen-Werft, Wismar, as the gearless open deck bulk carrier JENA, she had been sold in 1992 to Adriatic Tankers Shipping Company and renamed IONIAN SKY
IONIAN SKY had arrived at Rotterdam on 29th February 1996 from Sfax where she had been arrested on 14th December 1995 but released on 16th February. Re-arrested at Rotterdam, she was sold at auction on 12th June 1996 and initially renamed SKY I. The Italian company B.Navi SpA of Marina di Carrara then purchased the vessel which was renamed MED SORRENTO.
In 1998 she was fitted with three cargo handling cranes and renamed MED RIVA as which she finally arrived at Alang on 9th November 2006 to be broken up.
