Description:
Launched 1 September 1938 at Oslo by Nylands Verksted, hull no. 340, as *Dr. Heinrich Wiegand* for Argo Reederei (Richard Adler), Bremen. 255'7" x 41'1" x 14'7;" 1421 gt, 1127 nt; 2-cylinder compound steam engine, 16.75"-33.5" x 33.5" with low pressure turbine geared to shaft with hydraulic coupling, built by Nylands.
Later *Else Basse* (1949) and *Kaarina* (1954). Broken up 1968 at Hamburg.
Shown in May 1960 at Navy Pier, Chicago, Illinois, USA, owned by A/B Nordström O/Y, Loviisa, Finland. She was a very elegant vessel with her fine lines and white hull, and had quite a history as a troop transport operating on the Baltic and North Sea for the Nazis, I believe. In the late '50s and early '60s Nordström operated Nordlake Line in Great Lakes service to Scandinavia and the United Kingdom. One of the vessels Nordström used was the 1897-built *Nina,* quite the relic in the '60s.
