The Dutch Halcyon Lijn of Rotterdam also had bulk carriers with engines amidships which were built at around the same time which I believe were also engaged in the ore trade

Very suprising, but true, in Miramar also she is listed as an ore carrier.

Here it says built as a bulk carrier but operated as a log carrier.

The french text of the book Navale Caennaise Un siècle et demi d'histoire explains : ore carrier used as log (or lumber ?) carrier.

If she was built as a timber carrier it is unlikely she would have hull strength to carry ore, but her holds are relatively small and no matter that she might look like a ggc, my 1978/79 Lloyds Register lists her as an ore carrier.

Jackosan, this is indeed an ore carrier, sometimes these were built with the midship layout.

Did you get your information from Fotofile (which shows the same ship ship in your photo)? But it's quite different from the information that has automatically been displayed by this website, which indicates it was an ore carrier (as do all the usual sites such as maritime connector etc.): your & Fotofile's pictures are clearly of a general cargo ship.
