A note re tieing up in the cut.
Back in the old fashioned days ships transiting the canal would take on 6(?) boatmen and two boats in case they had to tie up in The Cut or elsewhere.
One boat frd, one aft. That is why in this photo you can see she has a single derrick 'topped' at #5 hatch to either launch or retrieve the after boat.

The white 'boot top stripe' on the ship astern tells me that she is one of Paddy Henderson's British & Burmese SNCOs ships.

Tied up in 'The Cut' to let a northbound convoy pass to the east.
'The Cut' , about 10 miles north of Ismailia, was the first bit of duplicated canal.

Looking at pictures of vessels like this I'm more than happy that I was able to work on such vessels from 1971 till early 90ties. I.E "Rheinland" , "Etha , Mai , Peter Rickmers" :-)

Probably she is that time (about 1955) on a voyage to Australia. Greetings from Cuxhaven Michael.

Location is Suez Canal, isn't it?

Thanks for the picture - a great source for a ship model builder ...!

Best regards,

Michael.
