A note re tieing up in the cut.
Back in the old fashioned days ships transiting the canal would take on 6(?) boatmen and two boats in case they had to tie up in The Cut or elsewhere.
One boat frd, one aft. That is why in this photo you can see she has a single derrick 'topped' at #5 hatch to either launch or retrieve the after boat.
The white 'boot top stripe' on the ship astern tells me that she is one of Paddy Henderson's British & Burmese SNCOs ships.
