Description:

The port of Ardrossan is located on the western side of Gulf St Vincent, 150 km north west of Adeleiade by road. It is used primarily for grain exports from the wheat farms on Yorke Peninsula. The 420-metre long Ardrossan Jetty can be seen in the left foreground, with the 930-metre long grain jetty in the background, with the bulk carrier ADELIE lying at the deep water berth at the T head of the jetty. The stone breakwater of the Ardrossan Boat Ramp can be seen on the near side of the shore end of the grain jetty, and the Viterra grain silos are visible on the extreme right of the photo.

Hi Jim, I'm guessing you're from Ayrshire! My trips to Scotland were limited to Edinburgh and surrounding districts, but I'd have loved to have been able to take a look at some of the harbour towns up and down both the west and east coasts. I doubt I'll get to do it now, but still, they say you should never say never! Take care, Pete

Hi Anthony, yes, you should definitely go and have a look. It's well worth a visit for its historical maritime and agricultural links, and besides, it's a pretty little town in its own right. Regards, Pete

Thank you for the Ardrossan jetty photo, the memory has been revived. I think the larger grain terminal was built long after my visit in '62. Next time I drive over must divert and pay a visit.Regards Anthony.
