"Dnepr"fish processing vessel in Avacha Bay.Photo by Nikolay Alekseyevich Nazarov.1956....The steamer "MILTON STAR" was purchased at the end of 1927 from the English company "Blue Star Line Ltd" and was named "Dnepr".Transferred to the Black Sea head office of the Sovtorgflot, port of registry Odessa. In 1929, the Dnepr refrigerator served on the Odessa-Genoa-Marseille line, transporting perishable cargo.On February 28, 1933, the "Dnepr" received an order to relocate to the Far East. Vladivostok became the new home port of the steamer.Since 1934, as a refrigerator steamer, it was listed as part of the Far Eastern State Shipping Company, but soon, without changing its name, it was transferred to the state fishing trust "Dalgosrybtrest" of the People's Commissariat of Fisheries.
During the World War II, the steamer was mobilized in 1942 and, as a transport, carried out flights from Vladivostok to the shores of the United States and Canada, carrying strategic and military cargo. In August 1945, "Dnepr" took part in the Kuril landing operation during the war with Japan.Since 1947, the refrigerator has been included in the vessels of the Glavprimorrybprom of the Ministry of the Fishing Industry. Nevelsk became the home port.In 1958 the steamer "Dnepr" arrived in the Nagaev Bay, where it was used as a floating base in the Marchekan fishing port.In July 1970, from the steamer "Dnepr" in the Nagaev Bay in the Marchekan fishing port, a pier was made for the floating workshop "Neva".The steamer was sunk near the shore, all deck superstructures were cut off from it, an iron deck was welded on, and loading and unloading equipment was installed.
