David, the tug is OLSAUGER II. Only picture I can currently find online of her is on page 2 here: http://andreas-westphalen.de/media/projekte/projekt_oelsauger.pdf
(though I am sure I took in Hamburg during a visit in 1999 - I will have to do some digging around).

Can anyone decipher the name of the tug alongside?

(part of the name can just be seen indistinctly below the pedestal of the forward crane)

This is convincing, Manfred and Tomislav; I have changed the data accordingly. However, I still cannot see anything of the name.

I agree with you Manfred, I saw the same photo of this ship without the stulken derrick, this is the ship it would be very difficult that both ships had suffered the same damage to the derrick on the same time and place.

Tomi.

Hi Wolfgang,
my photo software shows me what I believe is an O as second letter of the first word.
In 1968 both ships were only one and two years old. The visible repairs are at the Stülcken mast, not really the time to do an overhaul yet.
I have found a photo of LOIRE LLOYD where she is seen without the Stülcken derrick, damaged maybe. So I think it must be her.
Rgds, Manfred
