Southern Motu at Waitangi, Chatham Island
JOHN BURKE 1661 tons. 2147 deadweight. Lb: 72.4 x 15.5 metres. Cargo vessel built at Adelaide Shipbuilding, Port Adelaide for John Burke & Co. Roll on - roll off design, twin screw diesel engine making 12 knots. Sold 1985 - Nuigini Kula - 1989 Ngamaru III - 2001 Black Bart - 2002 Southern Motu - 2004 Itac Express. Broken up at Alang from 9th May 2006
I'm not sure how to classify this shot, an incomplete view of the ship, which was of the composite type, general cargo with a stern ramp. However 'Southern Motu' - built as 'John Burke' - operated a triangular service between New Zealand, unknown islands in the SW Pacific, and Chatham Island.
