It looks quite similar to the photo's on the internet, maybe safer to change the name to LA PLATA for the time being.

The picture could indeed have been taken before 1957 - this can be assumed from the buildings on land in background. The name ORINOCO has been mentioned in another forum but with so many possibilities everything is questionable.
Yes, the name have two parts. So LA PLATA seems right - or are there other possibilities?

Agree with David about the 2 part name, could indeed read La Plata but then the photo must be from before 1957, when were these pictures (which are quite stunning) taken aprox?

I think that there were at least eleven, maybe thirteen, of this series in all. Judging by the placing/number of windows and portholes, type of ventilators, bulwarks and poop structure (though some of these could have changed over time) none of the six/eight from Gotaverken fit, nor Kockums' SUECIA with a Lindholm hull.

There are certainly differences with BIO-BIO and ORINOCO. AMAZONAS (Yd 252/7371g) does seem the best fit so far, but I have not found a photo of LA PLATA (Yd 251/7372g), lost in 1957, and there is a suggestion in this photo that the name on the stern has two words, short-long.

Orinoco= Kockums yard number 253. Amazonas = Kockums 252. Similar ships of same date range built by Gotaverken for Rederi A/B Nordstjernan (Johnson Line).

I would suggest Johnson Line vessel. There were 7 of same design. Similar to/or Amazonas see IMO 5013715 (Renamed Golden Wonder.)

Then this is not the ORINOCO, that could be the case as the other photo is the GOLDEN SPRING for sure.
