Description:

Enroute from Oakland / Cal to Tokyo 1977. The 2nd container from portside contained "carbon black" powder. It's used for making cartires black. In this instance it was making everything black between hatch 1 and accomodation. And it's really dirtz and sticky. The wind / spray cracked the frontside and later a hole at the rear top side.It looked like the container was burning imside

The 2nd and 4th bxs from portside have been very vulnerable to the elements in general. Alusheets riveted to the frame , usually did not last very long. Cottonbales had the tendency to destroy the box from the inside. And on deck they also lasted.......

Interesting photo, the boxes looked pretty beaten-up but they did not fall overboard like today.
