The USNS Vandenberg was a missile-tracking ship operated for NASA and based at Cape Canaveral. Although the ship carried a lot of high-tech electronic equipment, she as originally built 1943 and operated by the Army Transport Service as a troop transport as the USAT General Harry Taylor.
