built 1863 by Gibson, McDonald & Arnold, Ramsey / Isle of Man, as EUTERPE for Wakefield, Nash & Co., Liverpool / UK, sailing in India trade; 1871 sold to Shaw, Savill & Co.; 1899 sold to Pacific Colonial Ship Co., and 1901 Alaska Packer’s Assoc., San Francisco; 1906 renamed STAR OF INDIA; 1923 laid up and 1926 acquired by Zoological Society in San Diego, but laid up until the 1950s, when efforts started to preserve the ship; until 1976 restored for the Maritime Museum of San Diego, still temporarily sailing;
