An example for small ship in low angle: http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/photo.php?lid=3217187

Thank you Denis, for you information about the photo angles, very interesting. Yes I take a series of photos from the driving ship on the KielCanal, sometimes I try the angles just for fun. See for example this one: http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/photo.php?lid=2033976
I went to the water line, 10cm over water line take by Zoom-factor and focus of the camera a series. Then I look in the final for the most interesting one to show the ship. That is e.g. a bigger ship in low angle. But your are right, when you say: smaller ones in lower angle looks great and bigger ones in higher angle. I tried a lot like this one or higher angle like this one: http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/photo.php?lid=2048870
I did not always want the same angle, was just for fun to move the location to show a variety :-))
kind regards my friend, Marcus

Marcus, do you just point & shoot (or keep shooting but selecting the best pic of all) or you sorta experimenting with every ship?
During my channel ship spottings in recent years, I found that for low-profile river-sea vessels under 100m it's nice to have camera low to the water. That won't work for high vessels like for example Sietas feeders from the 90s, especially if they pass close to me & not possible for me to back away from the water. So for such & big (100-150m) ships I try to stay high as possible, sometimes holding my camera above my head, lol. In either case I can't get camera higher than some 3m above water, but 10cm or 3m above water makes quite a difference how a photo turns out. Also I don't like angles when bow gets too close to me so that I almost see as a profile view while the aft superstructure is still mostly visible as front. Makes a ship on pic seem bent or like from fish eye, especially if it's a long ship.
