Photo taken 1992 in San Juan. Powered by two twelve cylinder Catepillar D-398 diesel engines. Turning two fixed pitch propellers she is a twin screw tug, rated at 1,530 horsepower.

This is one of a group of tugs whose design was called the "Equity 95". The Equitable Equipment Company of Madisonville LA marketed a number of standardized tug, barge, and workboat designs. I believe the first Equity 95 (for 95-feet in length) came out about 1940. The design evolved over the years, but their work remained very traditional. The Equitable brand name got merged into Halter Marine, and their designs eventually faded away. The last, the Equity 65 Water Taxi, I believe was the latest produced, still being built as the "Halter 65-foot Crewboat" into the 1970's.

I'm afraid somebody has put the wrong IMO with this photo. FAJARDO sailed concurrently with your vessel, and later became PUNTA BORINQUEN. Your vessel retained her name apparently her whole life, and is IMO 6707014. Thank you for providing this character-filled image of her.
