My dad Ralph Ray & his brother Robert of Whitburn both shipwrights & carpenters worked on this ship when it was being built in Pickersgills of Sunderland in 1953. They were working for Austins of Sunderland when Pickersgills got the order but Pickersgills didn't have a boat builder that had the skills required so a call was put out for anyone with the skills to come & work for them. Dad & Uncle Robert got the job & they were allowed to pick their own crew to work with them - Lawrence Purvis from Whitburn was 1 of them an apprentice electrician.
