|Launched 11 June 1896 at West Superior, WI, by the American Steel Barge Co. as hull no. 138 for the Bessemer SSCo., Duluth. 390’ x 48 x 27; 3200 gt, 2378 nt; triple expansion steam engine, 22.5”-36-60 x 42, 2000-ihp, by Cleveland SBCo.
Sold into Canadian registry, 1930. Broken up at Hamilton, Ontario, 1966-1967.
Shown May 1965 loading grain on the Calumet River, Chicago, Illinois, USA, while owned by Upper Lakes & St. Lawrence TransCoLtd., Toronto. She was a pure example of a “whaleback” right up until she was scrapped, after plans to turn her into a museum ship at Toronto fell through.
