Description:

Capital Tankers' ALTEREGO II being moved to her berth in the Seventh Petroleum Dock, Europoort. This shot was taken in April 2015. In the meantime she has been renamed CAMERONA and just recently MELOGY.
She was delivered 11-06-2002 by the Daewoo shipyard as yard number 5191. In the registers a previous name is given as YANNIS P. which was renamed to Alterego II in June 2002.
And this is where the problem starts, because there are many shots on this site of the YANNIS P. and definitely shot after 2002. It is clearly the same ship. So what do we have here, a classic case whereby the actual name change took place several years later? Somebody in the register mixing up a 7 with a 2 which was then followed up by everybody without checking?

Thanks Phil, I think Centrofin struck a very good deal there. So 2007 is the correct year for the name change.

For avoidance of doubt, "Yannis P" was renamed "Alterego II" in October 2007 upon handover to Capital Shipmanagement Corp. (Evangelos Marinakis) after being committed for purchased from Centrofin Managment for $89m in June 2007

Yes Pieter, I know there are still mistakes in there.

RD77: IHS Maritime is among the sources who list the name change as having taken place in 2002...

Plus, Equasis is fed with information from the class societies and from IHS Maritime I believe (well IHS Maritime for sure, as they told me so themselves)

Chas, I can assure you that my own database contains many more errors than Equasis...but they get paid to be correct.

How reliable is Equasis? One mistake, how many more?

Thanks, SouthamptonDavid, that strengthens my suspicion that the actual renaming took place in 2007 and not in 2002. I have little (printed) info on shipping developments in the first 10 years of this century, hence my query here.

Definitely still as Yannis P in early 2007 LSI and Lloyds Shipowning Group register

Bjorn, that is what I said, and which makes no sense because if you scroll down the photographs for this ship on this site you will find several of the Yannis PV taken later than 2002. There is of course another Yannis PV Suezmax tanker but she was built in 2010 by Hyundai and therefore looks completely different.
