A 1964 overview of Colombo harbour and roads as seen from the rooftop bar of Ceylinco House. The lighthouse clock tower below was less grand in appearance then compared to today. The land reclamation beyond the old sea wall and Dock Road is yet to come. The construction work seen by the ocean to the left of the clock lighthouse is the first of the arches that would support the now splendid Buddhist temple Sambodhi Chaithya. As was apparently the norm, there is a queue of ships in the roads waiting for a berth. I seem to remember we waited there for six weeks in 1963 and about four in 1964. The up side was that it was followed by many weeks in port in a truly wonderful place.
