Description:

The 1988 Gijon built tanker YELIZ K, owned by Kimnak Kimyevi Maddeler of Istanbul, is seen departing from Lavera oil terminal near Port de Bouc, Marseille, exactly twenty years ago today, on 7th June 2001.

Later: 2006 BERNA SULTAN - 07 OLIB G (Frio Ventures, Athens)

Thanks for that info Malcolm, I knew she had been hijacked, but I had read nothing about the final outcome.

The esteemed Croatian maritime historian Marijan Zuvic has advised as follows:

In August 2010 OLIB G. was sold to Alang breakers.

On September 8th, while on a delivery voyage, she was hijacked at the Gulf of Aden by the Somali pirates.

Her crew of 18 - 15 Georgian and three Turks - spent a year and half in captivity in terrible conditions.

Finally the Government of Georgia paid a ransom of 3 million dollars and the crew was released on January 8, 2012.

The abandoned OLIB G. still lies on the Somali coast near Harardeene.
