You are correct - I’m getting my tugs mixed up. You can probably also tell from my simplistic descriptions that I’m not an engineer! Glad you like the photo though, thanks.

The solution for these types of azimuth propeller is the slipping clutch and so you don't need a variable pitch. See https://www.kongsberg.com/contentassets/65302d65e4b04e129e23b6a233f89168/22.azimuth-2p_03.09.18.pdf. Regards. Baldizza.

Damen sell this type of tug with fixed pitch propeller. The pumps driven by the belts are two in line for the lubrification and for rotate the azimuth propeller. One of the hydraulic motor to rotate the azimuth propeller is in foreground. Oil for the lubrication is inside the propeller itself, oil for the rotation is inside the tank on the right of the photo.
