Launched in January 1945 as JOHN C PRESTON for the U.S. Government by the Delta Shipbuilding Co., New Orleans, and placed on bareboat charter to the Greek government, named HYDRA
1946 sold to Greek owners C N Michalos & N A Michalos, Piraeus, renamed COSTAS MICHALOS

While on a voyage from Archangel to Calais with woodpulp she developed a heavy list near Calais and was not allowed to enter the port. She was anchored in the Roads while attempts was made to reduce her list but in a gale force wind her anchor cable snapped and she was driven onto a sandbank 26/091962.
Attempts to tow her free were unsuccessful and after her back broke on November 10th she was declared a total constructive loss

Shortly before her demise she is pictured moored to the Commissioners Buoys, North Shields, 23/06/1962
