Hello Frank,

I think this was ARAMIS, because FELIX ROUSSEL had on each side two rows of lifeboats, which I can't see here.
By the way, in that time they were not cruiseships but passenger ships. ARAMIS was on a service from Marseille to East Asia (Saigon).

Regards, Hans

Shall we now try to identify the 2 other passenger ships and the dreadnought?

I think Frank told us before what the name of the ship was next to the ARAMIS....

This picture depicts Aramis, General Von Steuben and Kraljica Marija http://www.shipspotting.com/modules/myalbum/photo.php?lid=237955
http://www.shipspotting.com/modules/myalbum/photo.php?lid=336871 & http://www.shipspotting.com/modules/myalbum/photo.php?lid=336875 was one of the famous cruise ships but very little has been written about her as she was armed with anti aircraft gun on her forecastle and considered by maritime historians to be a military vessel. She was sunk by German submarines sunk along with a ” WILHELM GUSTLOFF “ http://www.shipspotting.com/modules/myalbum/photo.php?lid=182392 and a freighter “Goya” during the evacuation of civilians and wounded german soldiers from Eastern Prussia while fleeing advancing Red Army. This maritime disaster has claimed approximately 20000 lives compared with Titanic’s 1506.

Thanks for your comment, Vedran
Mr. IVO BATRICEVIC is right, General Von Steuben was taken over by the Kriegsmarine as an accomodation ship in 1939. Used as a transport in the Baltic starting in Aug 1944, evacuating wounded from the eastern front. On route from Pillau to Kiel with 2500 wounded, 2000 refugees, and 450 crew, she was torpedoed by Russian submarine S-13 just before midnight 10 Feb 1945 and sank in 15 minutes with the loss of approximately 3000 lives.

Soviet submarine S-13 torpedoed General Von Steuben and Wilhelm Gustloff

The French one looks to be a Messagieries Maritimes vessel, either MS Felix Roussel or MS Aramis. My reference is Arnold Kludas "Die grossen Passagierschiffe der Welt", Band III. Per Arnold Kludas, Felix Roussel was completed in November 1930, GRT 16,753. Aramis in August 1932, GRT 17,537.
