Good Day Al,
I hope all is well with you.I Believe this vessel had a connection with the Royal Canadian sea cadets at HMCS Acadia in Cornwallis,Nova Scotia for several summers training the sea cadets. In the early 80's.
Take Care

Hello Jarrod,
I didn't notice you there. I haven't reviewed my old photos for a couple of months for messages. At one time notices were posted when new comments were added but for some reason mine isn't working. I have been grinding away at Dockyard with no end in sight. Have a good summer.

Cheers
Al

I posed the mystery to a group of my friends, and we have identification, thanks to Ole Vistrup of Denmark, and Werner Jurkowski of Germany. They both say she is the Svanen, of Norway.

Thank you and your friends for the identification of the vessel in question. I took the picture in the summer of 1980 on a visit to the Oslo head office of my company Fred Olsen. How did you track down the name ? Is it listed in Lloyds under yachts?

Thanks again :-D

Hello Jarrod.

I sailed aboard the Svanen for a week when I was a Navy Cadet in quebec during the summer of 1983 or 1984.
Very nice ship. Also visited her in Halifax when I was stationed there while member of the Iroquois

SVANEN is known to most tall ship fans because of the book "Die Letzten Grossen Segelschiffe" (the last of the big sailing vessels), author Otmar Schäuffelen, published by Delius Klasing Verlag, Germany. She is also listed in the "International Register of Historic Ships", author Norman J. Brower, published in association with the World Ship Trust.

SVANEN is owned by th Norsk Sjoefartsmuseum and is ocasionally sailing, see
http://www.svanen.no/skuta/skuta.php

I've seen her in Oslo and Esbjerg.

Best regards,
Werner Jurkowski
