REMUERA was built for the London-Wellington passenger and cargo trade. The important naval milestone is that Remuera was the first British ship to pass through the newly opened Panama Canal in 1914. She ended her days in the North Sea in 1940 after receiving a torpedo hit from a German torpedo-carrying aircraft.
