I think I have answered my own question about the MSC. Photos of the vessel taken as recently as Feb. 2007 show no lettering; obvously the lettering was recently applied and possibly by the crew. Photos of the starboard side show a more professional looking "MSC" although it still is not quite in the correct type style. It will be interesting to see how long this nonconforming home made lettering lasts.

That sure is an unusual lettering style for the "MSC". Any ideas?
